Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official in U.S history. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she served as an United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. She was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was elected to a second term. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and the legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials during Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
